RELOAD, Video project for seniors

www.insurancerate.com StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-

Project: “RELOAD” Documentary Films by Seniors – Registration Now Open Mississauga is the sixth largest city in Canada and home to over 850,000 people.
It is a part of regional municipality of Peel which includes Brampton and Caledon with close to 500,000 re...sidents.... Almost 50% of this population was born outside... of Canada and is first generation immigrant.
The settlement process of a new immigrant mostly lasts between three to five years. Seniors who have left their comfort zone of friends, culture and traditionsfind it the most difficult to accommodate themselves in a completely new land with different culture and traditions. Having to learn /speak a new language also
proves challenging especially for the seniors. These seniors suffer emotional stress at a time when they are most vulnerable. The emotional stress and confusion of their status in the society give rise to a feeling of isolation and helplessness and that is where a project such as this one offer a helping hand.

Canadian Community Arts Initiative is a non for profit organization dedicated to promote a more effective role of art and culture in Canadian community. The organization also runs Mosaic Festival (the largest free South Asian festival ofNorth America)

CCAI will coach 15 seniors (especially new immigrants of 3-5 years tenure in Canada) in the art and science of documentary film making in sessions and workshops delivered by professional Canadian film makers, provide them with flipcams (mini digital video cameras) and have them record their impression of Canadian experience. These films will then be reviewed by a jury of professional artists who will select 10 films to be edited and screened at the 7th annual Mosaic festival in Mississauga in July 2012 where thousands are expected to view them. The films will later be aired on local and cable television as well. The project will create social inclusion opportunities for seniors, teach them a new skill and offer them a sense of accomplishment as they contribute to social and community life of Canada and are recognized for doing so.
