GUILTY(TALVAR) - India’s Case of the Century Re-Opens at TIFF15

World Premiere- Monday, September 14, 2015
6:45pm at Ryerson Theatre-  350 Victoria St, Toronto, ON

September 1, 2015 (Toronto, ON) - On the night of May 15, 2008, 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar was found murdered in her home, kicking off an international media frenzy the likes of which India had never before seen.  The Noida Double Murder Case remains controversial for its botched investigation and the public rush to judgement which saw the girl’s parents arrested and convicted of the brutal slaying of Aarushi and their house servant Hemraj.
Now audiences at TIFF will have the chance to examine the facts and arrive at their own verdicts, deciding just who is Guilty of the crime, as writer/producer Vishal Bhardwaj and director Meghna Gulzar present the details of the controversial investigation.  The Indian title of the film, “Talvar” is not only an alternate spelling of the victim’s last name, but it is also the word for “sword” and this true crime thriller thematically leans on the ideal of the sword of justice.
Irrfan Khan (Jurassic World, The Lunchbox, Life of Pi) leads an all star cast of acting heavyweights including Neeraj Kabi (Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, Ship of Theseus), Konkona Sen Sharma (Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, Life in a Metro), Sohum Shah (Ship of Theseus, Baabarr) and featuring Tabu (Haider, Life of Pi).
Guilty (Talvar) releases worldwide on October 2, 2015 and is part of the initial three picture slate from Times of India Group’s new film studio Junglee Pictures, who earlier this summer had a monster international hit, Dil Dhadakne Do from another female director- Ms. Zoya Akhtar
