Chantal Pontbriand and DEMO_GRAPHICS: An international biennial arts event in the Greater Toronto Region ( May-June-July 2017)
On behalf of the Canadian Community Arts Initiative which is spearheading the DEMO_GRAPHICS project,, Asma Mahmood is pleased to congratulate Chantal Pontbriand on her recent appointment as the new CEO of MOCCA. Chantal Pontbriand will continue in her role as Curator and Artistic Advisor for DEMO_GRAPHICS , the biannual arts event for the Greater Toronto Area taking place in 2017. Asma Mahmood , the Executive Director for the project, expressed her hope that this appointment would help develop DEMO_GRAPHICS as a permanent presence in the GTA. Professor Yvonne Singer, Co-Director, is keen to see the engagement of various arts institutions supporting DEMO_GRAPHICS as a shared project where the entire regional engagement would make the difference.
Chantal Pontbriand, is a internationally celebrated Canadian contemporary art curator and critic whose work is based on the exploration of questions of globalization and artistic heterogeneity. She has curated numerous international contemporary art events. She was appointed Head of Exhibition Research and Development at Tate Modern in London in 2010 and more recently founded PONTBRIAND W.O.R.K.S. [We_Others and Myself_Research_ Knowledge_Systems. In her opening statement at the first Think Tank for the event, she stressed for a greater influence of Canada on the international art scene. She also pointed out that the Greater Toronto Area is positioned to become an important player in the international art context.
Canadian Community Arts Initiative is a registered non profit organization that has delivered successful and pioneering multi disciplinary Arts festivals in the GTA including TD Mosaic Festival, RTC indie music festival and MISAFF film festival. www.communityart.ca
