A storm at sea brings love into the life of Pericles, Prince of Tyre, and another snatches it away. This magical production of Shakespeare's epic tale is a delight for the eye and ear. Filled with music and brilliant spectacle, it follows a fairy-tale hero on a miraculous journey to one of literature's most poignant reunions. Evan Buliung gives a sweeping performance, portraying the dashing young prince with verve and swagger, and taking him into his elder years with sorrowful tenderness. "Moving and fun from beginning to end," it is a story rarely told, and one you won't soon forget.

Stratford Festival's The Adventures of Pericles

premiรจres May 7 at Cineplex theatres across Canada

April 22, 2016… Stratford Festival HD's 2016 film series culminates in the release of The Adventures of Pericles on Saturday May 7 at Cineplex theatres across Canada. It returns to cinemas on Thursday, May 12.

"The sweeping story of Shakespeare's Pericles translates beautifully to the screen," says Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino. "I'm thrilled that the remarkable production that Scott Wentworth created  for the stage will have a life beyond Stratford, making this rarely told epic accessible to people around the world."

Directed by Barry Avrich, The Adventures of Pericles is faithful to the 2015 stage version of the production but with an intimacy even greater than that provided by the famously intimate Tom Patterson Theatre.

The Adventures of Pericles was captured live with a full audience at the Stratford Festival's Tom Patterson Theatre on September 15, 2015, using 10 cameras and 128 tracks of sound to create a sensational high-definition, surround-sound production. Additional footage was captured on stage immediately following the performance, also with an audience present, allowing Mr. Avrich to create an unparalleled amalgam of live theatre and cinematic production.

The Adventures of Pericles features Evan Buliung as Pericles with Sean Arbuckle as Cleon, Deborah Hay as Thaisa, Marina and Antiochus's daughter, Claire Lautier as Dionyza, Brigit Wilson as Bawd and Antoine Yared as Lysimachus.

The production received outstanding reviews:

"One of the most resonant of the Great One's last plays and, at Stratford, an intimately staged font of poignant pleasure."

–Chicago Tribune

"Incest! Romance! Betrayal! And can you count on anyone to stay dead? It may sound like 'Game of Thrones,' but Shakespeare was around long before 'GoT' became the go-to fantasy adventure."

–Pittsburgh Post Gazette

"Epic theatre"

–Hamilton Spectator

"Highly entertaining … Wentworth and this cast have made it a tale worth telling, and one well worth seeing."

–Sun Media

"A remarkably fluent, intelligent production."

–Hamilton Spectator

"Entertaining and satisfying."

–The Toronto Star

"Moving and fun from beginning to end … This story is an 'adventure' indeed and I encourage you to check it out."

–Broadway World

"Brilliant! … elements of fairy tale and myth, magic and mystery. This production embraces all of these to the deep enjoyment of those in search of the marvellous, the miraculous and the divine."

–The Record
